Shree Gorakhnath Basic School | Mandra
Introduction
Shree Gorakhnath Basic School is a community school located in Mandra Village, Barhabise Municipality, Ward 6, Sindhupalchok District. This village is home to Sherpa and Tamang communities. The school was founded in 1990 through local social activists who worked with the DEO, Sindhupalchok, to establish a primary-level school in the area. By the following year, the school had expanded to include classes up to grade five, with 140 students enrolled. As of 2021, the school now offers classes up to grade 8.
Message from Head Teacher
Namaste!
I am Wangdi Tamang, the headmaster of Shree Gorakhnath Basic School, Mandra. I have been teaching at this school since 2014. When I got an opportunity to work as a teacher, there were classes from one to five. All the classes and all educational activities were going well, and the students enjoyed their studies. But unfortunately, our country was hit with a destructive earthquake on 25th April 2015 which brought colossal destruction to the whole country, including our village communities. Most of the houses and buildings were severely ruined by the earthquake, and at that
time, our school building also collapsed. All the surrounding was filled with destruction and fear. People move from one place to another to save their lives. Our regular classes were also stopped for a while due to the unavailability of the school building, toilet, and drinking water facility. After a month, a temporary learning centre (TLC) was built and started class in a temporary learning centre. After a year, Namaste Nepal has committed to supporting a new school building reconstruction project in Mandra which was considered the highest support we have had. Soon after that, the construction of the building had eight classes and a toilet with four rooms was successfully constructed to date. It is unimaginable for us to rebuild the school and start our regular classes. The entire school management committee, teachers, students, and communities saw it happening they were overwhelmed with joy.
Therefore, we are indebted to Namaste Nepal for their outstanding work in rebuilding it and making it child-friendly, exceptional, and attractive. So, the school chairperson and the whole school family would like to express our heartfelt thank you to Namaste Nepal and all supporters and well-wishers. Lastly, we look forward to a long-term relationship that will grow even deeper and deeper.
Thank you!
Wangdi Tamang
