Gati Mother Group | Gati, Sindhupalchok

Introduction

The Mothers Group is a crucial support system for women’s empowerment. The Gati Mothers Group was founded in 2000 AD by mothers from Gati village, Sindhupalchok. The group aims to promote social, educational, economic, and capacity-building activities in the village. It currently has 62 members who contribute Rs. 20 per month to a fund that can be used as a loan for productive purposes. Mrs. Gyani Maya Shrestha is the current chairperson of the group.

Namaste Nepal is a school partnership project to empower the Gati Mothers Group. To support their income generation, NNK provides yearly skill development training such as tailoring, sewing, and bracelet-making. This training helps the mother group, builds their capacity, and empowers them. As a result, they become capable of decision-making, self-dependence, and active participation in social, political, and development programs. The Mothers Group has helped them socialise and integrate into present society.
