Gati Coffee Project

The Gati Coffee Cooperative was established in 2013 with the help of Namaste Nepal as an income-generating program through coffee cultivation. Namaste Nepal has continuously supported the cooperative since its inception. The project aimed to engage villagers in income-generating activities and promote sustainable education. A portion of the income generated is allocated to the education fund. Currently, Mr. Dev Gubaju oversees the cooperative as a coffee expert. In 2015, NNK built a facility for the farmers to hold meetings and store, dry, and collect coffee. Namaste Nepal also constructed an iron truss for the coffee nursery in February 2017. The cooperative is a collaborative effort among coffee farmers to achieve their goals.

Role of Namaste Nepal in coffee project:

Nepal is still exploring the world of coffee plantations, with the first successful planting taking place in Aapchaur of Gulmi District. The growing popularity of coffee exports and domestic consumption have encouraged farmers to consider it as a profitable crop. Namaste Nepal has been conducting coffee training for Gati village farmers, covering everything from planting to roasting. The focus is on nurturing coffee plants correctly. Karma Coffee purchases locally produced coffee at a reasonable price, but the quantity is insufficient to make a significant impact on the economy. To change that, more large-scale farming is needed. Gati farmers’ coffee is exported to Germany, with 10% of the total income going towards an education fund. The Gati youth club members currently maintain the coffee nursery.

School Coffee Project

The students of Shree Kali Devi Secondary School have completed the school coffee project with the aim of supporting our school project through the income generated from coffee plantations. Over 350 coffee plants were planted by the students and Gati Youth Club at Majho forest, located near Borderland resort. While the students of Shree Kali Devi Secondary School were responsible for planting the coffee plants, they are being taken care of by the members of the Gati youth club.
